About Jessica Knoop

Picture
Jessica Knoop is a certified teacher who has a M.Ed in Reading. She lives in Vinings. Jessica began teaching in 2001 for the Cobb County School District. During this time she had the great opportunity to teach students and work with interpreters from Kennesaw Mountain High School's Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program. During this time she fell in love with signing and began to to take weekly ASL lessons from a lead interpreter in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program. She left Cobb County to teach in local area private schools but continued to teach signing to her students as a part of the everyday classroom.

When Jessica gave birth to her first daughter, Ansley, she knew that research supported teaching sign language to infants and toddlers to help with early language development. She successfully taught Ansley key signs so that they could effectively communicate with each other. Being able to communicate and understand what Ansley was expressing was such a blessing that when Jessica became pregnant with her daughter, Campbell, she knew she would teach Campbell ASL as well. Campbell is now 24 months old and has over 150 signs at her disposal and adds more everyday. The excitement of seeing her children effectively communicate is what has brought her to be a My Smart Hands Instructor. She wants to share this joy with as many caregivers as possible so that they may too relish in communicating with their preverbal child.
